The 2009 DPV Professional of the Year is John McKenna
This prestigious award, which has only ever been awarded four times, is in recognition of John’s outstanding and continuous work for people with a disability, and the organisations who support them, for more than 20 years.
John has worked with Traveller’s Aid, Telstra, HREOC, ‘field’ and other organisations in the sector.
As part of both his paid and his substantial voluntary contributions, John’s many achievements include:
§ co-creating the “No Limits” TV program (and appearing as “Macca”)
§ helping create, with IBM and Microsoft, the first ever web developer’s access plan
§ leading-edge work in disability and the justice system
§ garnering support for disability issues from major corporations such as Macquarie Bank
§ working on disability access and transport with organisations such as LinFox
§ contributing to many training videos and other material used to improve disability services
§ and much, much more
John is also a Board member of the E.W. Tipping Foundation.
We congratulate John on this recognition of his contributions, and we thank him for all he has achieved for people with a disability in Victoria.
